Laser Tattoo Removal

Ready to say goodbye to an old tattoo?

Whether it’s a body tattoo you’ve outgrown, a small tattoo you no longer love, or old semi-permanent makeup that has faded or changed colour over time, laser tattoo removal can help gradually break down unwanted pigment and fade it over a course of treatments.

At Aurora, we offer professional laser tattoo removal for both body tattoos and semi-permanent makeup, with every treatment plan tailored to you, your skin and the pigment being treated.

Laser tattoo removal can be used for:
  • Unwanted body tattoos

  • Small tattoos

  • Older or faded tattoos

  • Tattoos you’d like lightened ahead of a cover-up

  • Semi-permanent eyebrows

  • Microblading and other eyebrow tattooing

  • Old or discoloured semi-permanent makeup

How does laser tattoo removal work?

Laser tattoo removal works by delivering short pulses of targeted laser energy into the tattoo pigment.

The energy breaks the pigment down into much smaller particles, which your body can then gradually clear through its natural processes.

Rather than removing the tattoo in one treatment, it becomes progressively lighter over a series of sessions.

How many sessions will I need?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.

The number of treatments you’ll need will depend on factors including the size, age, depth and colour of the tattoo, the type of ink or pigment used, its location on the body and how your individual tattoo responds to treatment.

Some tattoos may fade more quickly than others, while more densely pigmented or professionally applied tattoos can require a longer course.

We’ll assess the area before starting treatment and give you a realistic idea of what to expect.

Can you remove semi-permanent makeup?

Yes. Laser can be used to treat certain types of unwanted or faded semi-permanent makeup, including microbladed or tattooed eyebrows.

This can be particularly helpful if your brows have changed colour over time, the shape is no longer what you want, or you’d like to remove or lighten existing pigment before having them redone.

Semi-permanent makeup pigments can behave differently from traditional tattoo inks, so the area and pigment will always need to be assessed before treatment.

Can you completely remove a tattoo?

Our aim may be complete removal or significant fading, depending on your tattoo and what you’d like to achieve. While many tattoos respond extremely well to laser treatment, it isn’t possible to guarantee complete removal. Different inks, colours and pigments respond differently, and we’ll always be realistic with you about the likely outcome.

If you’re planning a cover-up, you may only need the existing tattoo faded enough to give your tattoo artist a better base to work from.

What does laser tattoo removal feel like?

You’ll usually feel a quick snapping or flicking sensation as the laser passes over the tattoo.

Treatment itself is generally very quick, particularly for smaller tattoos and semi-permanent brows.

The area can feel warm or tender afterwards, and you may experience temporary redness, swelling or whitening of the skin. We’ll talk you through exactly what to expect and how to care for the area following your appointment.

Why do treatments need to be spaced apart?

Your body needs time between appointments to process and clear the fragmented pigment.

Spacing treatments appropriately also allows the skin to recover fully before we treat the area again. Trying to rush the process doesn’t necessarily mean faster results — your treatment schedule will be planned around your skin and how the tattoo is responding.

Before your treatment

Before starting laser tattoo removal, we’ll assess your tattoo, discuss your goals and make sure treatment is appropriate for you.

It’s particularly important to avoid sun exposure and fake tan on the treatment area for at least four weeks before your appointment, as treatment cannot be safely carried out on tanned skin.

You’ll also receive full pre- and post-treatment guidance from us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How quickly will I see my tattoo fade?

A: Fading happens gradually. You may notice changes following your first treatment, but the pigment continues to break down and clear in the weeks afterwards. Results build over a course of treatments.

Q: How long should I leave between laser tattoo removal sessions?

A: Your treatment intervals will be recommended based on the area being treated and how your skin and tattoo respond. Adequate healing time between sessions is an important part of achieving the best possible result.

Q: Can all tattoo colours be removed?

A: Different colours and pigments absorb laser energy differently, which means some respond more readily than others. We’ll assess the colours within your tattoo and discuss what we can realistically achieve before beginning your course.

Q: Can you remove microblading?

A: Certain microblading and eyebrow tattoo pigments can be treated with laser. Because semi-permanent makeup pigments can react differently to traditional tattoo ink, an assessment is important before proceeding.

Q: Can I have a tattoo faded rather than completely removed?

A: Absolutely. If you’re planning a cover-up, we can work towards fading the existing tattoo rather than complete removal.

Q: Can I have laser tattoo removal if I have a tan?

A: No. The treatment area needs to be free from both natural and fake tan. We recommend avoiding tanning the area for at least four weeks before treatment.

Q: Is there downtime?

A: You may experience some redness, swelling, tenderness or temporary changes to the appearance of the treated area afterwards. We’ll provide full aftercare advice and explain what is normal following treatment.
